AdDU Computer Engineering — Laguna Plant Tour 2018
School of Engineering and Architecture, Ateneo de Davao University
The Educational Plant Tour of the Computer Engineering students of Ateneo de Davao University happened last October 22–26, 2018. The group has toured seven factories across the province of Laguna. This Educational Plant Tour was made possible by AdDU’s School of Engineering and Architecture and Reiner Travel & Tours Davao Co.
Tong Hsing Electronics Phils. Inc.
Together with the Electronics Engineering students, the group had visited Tong Hsing Electronics, located at the Carmelray International Business Park. Tong Hsing is a Semicon company that produces microelectronic packaging and substrate technologies right here in the Philippines. Tong Hsing was kind enough to show us the production line of their Semicon products and Tong Hsing’s history here in the Philippines.
Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation
The group had visited the Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation plant located in Santa Rosa Laguna. Toyota was courteous in welcoming and touring us inside their factory. During our stay, we have learned how Japanese engineering technologies and Filipino craftsmanship manufactured reliable cars today, such as the Toyota Innova and the Toyota Vios.
Artesyn Embedded Technologies
Artesyn Embedded Technologies in Laguna Technopark is another Semicon company that designs and produces power supplies for OEM companies worldwide. During the tour, we learned about Artesyn’s technical processes such as Circuit Simulation, PCB Layout & Tracking, DSP Software Development, Thermal, Magnetic, & 3D Simulation, Solder Paste Printing & Mounting, Airflow & Vibration Analysis, and many many more.
Hino Motors Philippines Corp.
Located at Silangan Industrial Park, Hino Motors described their business processes from customization to the maintenance of Hino vehicles. Together with the Chemical Engineering students, we’ve traveled through each of their assemblies and met their technical crew. What I admired most was their standards for environmental management as their factory is ISO 14001:2015 certified.
Microchip
Also located in Carmelray Industrial Park, Microchip produces innovative and secure products for consumers. Together with the Electronics Engineering students, we’ve proceeded through the air shower, silicon wafer production rooms, and the final product assembly line. It was engaging to see how they make the ICs we’ve been using and buying from Davao’s local electronics shops.
